International Appointment Eligibility

International appointments are generally reserved for complex legal, corporate, safeguarding, therapeutic and specialist forensic examinations where significant forensic expertise and structured forensic interviewing are required. These include criminal defence investigations, historical abuse allegations, immigration credibility assessments, executive vetting, serious workplace misconduct, and professional disciplinary proceedings.

Routine domestic relationship disputes are normally referred to an appropriate local examiner where a suitable practitioner is available. This does not mean that all private matters are declined — where the circumstances are sufficiently complex or where no appropriate local examiner exists, private cases may be considered on merit.

Specialist Forensic Support

Sports Integrity and Sports Law Investigations

The Centre for Forensic Neuroscience provides specialist forensic polygraph examinations to support investigations within the sports integrity and sports law sectors. Examinations are conducted by Dr Keith Ashcroft, a chartered investigative psychologist and experienced forensic polygraph examiner, and are available internationally by arrangement.

How Forensic Polygraph Examinations Support Sports Investigations

Sports governing bodies, integrity units, professional clubs and sports lawyers increasingly face complex investigations requiring independent credibility assessment. Match-fixing investigations, competition manipulation allegations, corruption within sporting organisations, bribery allegations, and athlete misconduct investigations all present challenges where traditional evidence-gathering may be insufficient to resolve disputed factual accounts.

A forensic polygraph examination does not determine truth or guilt. It provides structured investigative interviewing, scientifically validated physiological data collection, and transparent scoring methodology that produces investigative decision support within a wider evidential framework. The examination is one component of a broader investigative process and should be considered alongside other available evidence.

Examinations may assist investigations involving spot-fixing, coach misconduct, safeguarding concerns within sporting environments, financial misconduct, contract fraud, agent and intermediary misconduct, confidentiality breaches, and whistleblower investigations. They may also support internal disciplinary proceedings, arbitration preparation, and integrity unit investigations where an independent credibility assessment could provide additional information to assist investigators and legal representatives.

All examinations follow the standards and procedures of the American Polygraph Association and ASTM International (Committee E52 on Forensic Psychophysiology). Physiological recording is conducted using validated instrumentation, and scoring follows published, peer-reviewed methodologies. Results are reported transparently, including numerical scores and their interpretation, enabling instructing parties to evaluate the findings within the context of their wider investigation.

Who May Instruct an Examination

Forensic polygraph examinations for sports integrity and sports law matters may be instructed by a range of professional and institutional bodies. Examinations are accepted only where the matter is suitable for structured polygraph assessment, voluntary participation is confirmed, and the instructing party has a legitimate investigative or disciplinary purpose.

Sports governing bodies and national federations
Professional clubs and sporting organisations
Sports lawyers and arbitration teams
Integrity units and regulatory organisations
Professional associations and disciplinary panels
Independent investigators and corporate legal departments

Sports Integrity Appointments

International sports integrity examinations are generally undertaken only where the matter involves serious professional, regulatory or legal issues requiring specialist forensic expertise. Routine enquiries without a clear investigative, disciplinary or legal context are unlikely to be accepted.

Evidence-Informed Forensic Methodology

Sports integrity and professional misconduct investigations demand rigorous, defensible methodology. The Centre employs structured examination procedures including comprehensive pre-test investigative interviewing, validated physiological recording using state-of-the-art computerised polygraph systems, and transparent numerical scoring algorithms. This evidence-informed practice ensures that examination findings can withstand scrutiny in disciplinary proceedings, sports arbitration, and — where applicable — criminal or civil proceedings.

Dr Ashcroft's background in investigative psychology and forensic neuroscience provides additional analytical capability beyond standard polygraph practice, supporting the interpretation of findings within the broader investigative context.

Fees and Appointment Guidance

How Fees Are Quoted

Fees are quoted individually according to the nature and scope of the instruction. Relevant factors may include case complexity, preparation and document review, question formulation, examination time, venue and travel requirements, reporting and professional follow-up.

A straightforward private examination may require a different scope of work from a legally instructed matter, therapeutic disclosure examination or workplace investigation. Differences in fees reflect the professional resources required by each instruction, not a different level of methodological rigour. Legal, employer and organisational instructions may also be quoted on a professional day-rate basis where appropriate.

The fee will always be confirmed in advance, after a short discussion about the circumstances, before any appointment is agreed.

Venue and Confidentiality

Frankfurt examinations are conducted at the professional appointment location on Bockenheimer Landstraße, which provides a private, controlled environment suitable for polygraph procedures.

In accordance with American Polygraph Association recommendations, examinations are not conducted in domestic (home) settings, as it is rarely possible to control the environment to a satisfactory degree.

All personal information and examination results are handled with complete discretion. For details, see our privacy and confidentiality policy.

To receive a fee estimate, please contact us with a brief outline of the matter, preferred timescale and any reporting requirements.
